To many of us, the New Year means a wardrobe revamp and a fresh new look. It's a chance to reinvent yourself and take a few more chances. But even if you’re not yet back to our pre-pandemic social calendar, you can dip a toe into 2022's trends with an accessory upgrade. We’ve got your back with this selection of up-to-the-minute looks.
Perhaps it’s optimism for a brighter future or preparation for a post-pandemic life, when we can cast aside our saggy sweatpants and embrace a more colorful, fun-loving wardrobe. Whatever the reason, designers turned their attention to bright, beautiful colors for 2022. And what better way to ease yourself into a more vibrant future than with a bold accessory? Bright bags were on the runways of, most notably, Bottega Veneta. Hermès is, of course, the master of color, with a full rainbow to choose from. If you want to step into 2022 with real gusto, opt for a highlighter yellow bag, a color championed by brands including Prada and Erdem. The zesty freshness of Lime, from the Candy collection of 2011 is perhaps Hermès’ best interpretation of the color. Unlike most designer bags, the great thing about opting for Hermès is that whatever color or model you get, these perennial pieces won’t date.

If highlighter yellow and other bold, brash colors aren’t your, ahem, bag, perhaps the Pantone Color of the Year 2022 will tick your boxes. Veri Peri is a sultry lavender purple with blue/ gray undertones. According to Pantone, it was picked for its “spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expressions.” If that sounds like something you need more of in your life, there are numerous Hermès tones that fit the bill, like Cyclamen, Anemone, Violette and Iris.

Mini bags certainly aren’t going away any time soon, but 2022 sees the welcome return (especially for those who have trouble packing light) of a bulkier bag. More sizeable bags were seen on the runways of the likes of Max Mara and Tory Burch, but for Hermès-lovers, the HAC or a Birkin 40 (or larger) is the only bulky bag they’d be seen with. Who has time to cram their phone, makeup and wallet into a teeny tiny bag, when they can bring everything they need and more in a stylish, super-sized bag?
Another rebellion against the stay-at-home beige-ness of the last few years is bold patterns. Psychedelic, impressionist-inspired, houndstooth and stripes were some of the prints and patterns favored by the likes of Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Moschino, Chloé and Versace. It’s hard to go wrong with a bold print this season. While prints may be associated more with Hermès Carré, there are a few Hermès handbags that fit the bill, too. This Constance MM 24 De Camp ticks two major trend boxes for 2022: bold patterns and chains, which were seen as accessories at Chanel.
